The HSU OHS Unit 

Creating a healthier workplace
Health and safety is one of the most important issues in the workplace, with almost half a million workers injured in Australia each year.

If you are an HSU member, you are entitled to free assistance on any health and safety issue.

What We Do
The HSU Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Unit educates members about the risks that workers face in health facilities across the state with a focus on reducing workplace injuries.

The HSU OHS Unit
Represents workers across the health industry develops policies and guidelines with other stakeholders in the health industry liaises with OHS reps and Delegates to raise awareness of significant and merging  health and safety issues in the workplace assists union officers, organisers, union members with health and safety information produces publications for use in workplaces and in training courses

ACTU_ 2nd rate safety button


The ACTU has launched their "Don't risk 2nd rate Safety" Campaign to ensure that new national Occupational Health and Safety laws proposed to apply consistently across all states and territories don't jeopardise the current standards of Health and Safety.

Trades Hall has a program of training for HSRs available from October 2009 - March 2010 which workplace reps are entitled to register for and advised to do so. 
Registration forms are available from www.ohsrep.org.au.
 
Members are advised that the Public Sector HASA Award allows for 5 days training leave a year. Private Sector training leave provisions vary. If you are not sure what training leave you are entitled to, please contact the Member Adviceline on 1300 723 733.
